Dame of the West Tattoo

I can't say enough about Josh and his crew here. Absolutely professional and courteous. The work they did for me was top notch and admired by many. This was my first tattoo ever and they made me feel welcome and comfortable. I would not hesitate to send anyone here.

I’m really happy to see that some people have good experiences at this shop, but I didn’t. I currently have a tattoo on my body that I hate because it is associated with an artist that does not deserve his work on my skin. That artist is Josh Carter. It is unfortunate that this is the case considering shows off some of his best work, hence why I entrusted him initially to work on me. He’s outgoing, so he comes off as a great person to do business with as well.

However, the reality of my experience and I fear the potential reality for others is that I got swindled. I paid $200 for a tattoo smaller than the size of my palm. He only used black ink, one liner, the process took him roughly 30 minutes. During my time with him he seemed more eager to joke with his colleagues than pay attention to his customer. He barely talked to me. While I was trying to achieve the placement I would be happiest with, he was unwilling to work with me. He rushed me and talked over me. I apologize that Josh had to take time to reapply the stencil, but remember that the work is permanent... I am still not happy with the placement, or the tattoo for that matter.

Tattoo artists are notorious for being fairly lackluster when it comes to professionalism. Most have egos bigger than the sun and seem to forget that their customers keep food on their table. It’s well understood that if you want good work you have to cater to these people big time. The tattoo industry is overly saturated these days. There are amazing artists everywhere constantly dealing out new and amazing designs. Professionalism matters.

Perhaps Josh wasn’t interested in doing my small design or maybe he was too excited to go out and drink with his buddies after work since that’s all any of them could talk about - if so, then he shouldn’t have taken my business and scheduled me right before close.

Please be mindful of your customers. I would’ve been happy to return to have many more pieces added to my already growing collection had this gone well. My thought walking out that night was that I would never return. The $200 charge for a $60 tattoo at another shop cost him money from me in the longterm.

Buyer beware.

The absolute best and best looking tattoo shop in AZ hands down. I just recently finished up my koi sleeve by the wonderful and talented Josh Carter (co-owner) and cannot be more proud of how it turned out. Place is filled with talented artists like Josh! Will be coming back soon to finish my upper body.

Such a clean and unique shop with lots of character with a combination of a vintage and minimalistic feel. Jen tattooed me and I could not recommend her enough: she is very understanding, laid back, and easy to work with. And I bet every other person working in this shop is just as great.

Always a solid experience working with Josh Carter! Dame of The West is such a clean nice space. I felt so comfortable and really taken care of. I was surprised at the affordability for such a high end parlor.

Josh is so versatile in his styles. He can do any thing you ask, really. His line work is tight and his color pieces are dope. I get so many compliments. I also appreciate that he is so light handed.. Return client forever!

Great shop and atmosphere! Been following Fernando and having him do the work on my sleeve for some time and I always leave happy and satisfied with any and all the work he's done. All the artists here do great work and would definitely be happy to have any work done by any artist here!

Nice clean shop. Friendly staff. Me being very, very picky, I asked if I could place the two stencils on myself with a little help from the tattooist. He was very cool about it. Got two classic swallow bird tattoos. They came out exactly the way I wanted from the picture I provided. I would highly recommend this shop.

So I stopped in for a consolation on a tattoo last week, and was pleased with the professionalism and how pleasant the staff was at the Dame of the west Tattoo shop was. 100% recommend this shop!!! Got a sick Japanese inspired tattoo from Josh, great artist and love my new tattoo, can't wait to add to it!

Despite being a new shop, the 40 years of combined experience of Jon Garber and Josh Carter created an instant classic as far as tattoo shops are concerned. Everything about this shop is amazing from the decor to the people. The artwork that is coming out here is some of the best, if not the best, Phoenix has to offer. The friendliness of the crew makes for a fun experience, and you’ll definitely keep coming back. The only reason I gave it 5 stars is because I can’t give it 10.
