From the business

"Rising Tide Tattoo was founded in 2005 by Phill Bartell as a one-man shop on Pearl St. in downtown Boulder, Colorado. Five years later, Rising Tide Tattoo Emporium & Gallery was born from the idea that one space could bring together fine art and tattoo art; displaying quality work on both skin and canvas. In 2010, Rising Tide opened its doors to a warm reception from the community and our machines have hardly been quiet since. Our artists work closely with each client to ensure that their pieces are unique and aligned with their vision. Come on by to check out our light-filled, inspiring space, peruse portfolios and gallery art for sale, or to make an appointment for custom work. Walk in clients are also welcome."

Professionalism Artistry Great Conversation Friendly Staff Highly Recommended

I got got my first tattoo at this shop from Darren and have kept coming back since. I can't recommend Darren enough for his professionalism, artistry, and great conversation. Even then, the rest of the folks at Rising Tide are amazing too. Glenn is awesome and keeps everyone in check. Overall, this shop deserves it's high rating and will take care of anyone from someone looking for their 1st tattoo to their 50th.

Arrogant Passive Aggressive Condescending Bummer

Skilled. Arrogant and passive aggressive. I made an appointment for bridal party to get tattoos. I fully understand that there are artist who are not interested in this type of tattooing. That’s fine. Communicate that before hand. Don’t make the appointment. Instead, we came in excited and we were treated in a condescending manner by the artist who also made everyone all the tattoos larger than they agreed to. Bummer all around. If you want to deal with immaturity and have that inked into your body, this is your place.

Poor Customer Service Unresponsive Staff

I’ve gotten two great tattoos here, but things seem to being going downhill with customer service. in the last week, I reached out hoping to make an appointment for a new tattoo. I emailed back and forth for a day or two with Glenn about making an appointment when suddenly one day he just stopped responding to my emails for no reason and with no explanation. I tried to follow up multiple times but haven’t heard back. Rude, but it’s fine. I’ll take my money somewhere else.

Poor Communication Unsatisfactory Work

I had a couple pieces done at rising tide. Overall impressions are that the shop is clean, the quality is good, and the staff is friendly. However i will not be back for reasons noted below.

Each attempt at communicating with the shop was harder than expected. Submitted an email through the website, didn't hear back. Called and left a msg, didn't hear back. Called again and finally got someone that set up an appt.

Had a couple appts w Stevie who was even worse at communicating. She provided an email addr and phone number and said either are fine for contact. She never actually responded to an email even though she asked me to send images and notes about the work i wanted done. She responded to 2 of the 5 texts i sent. Again, i was attempting to discuss the work that i would be paying hundreds of dollars for at the next appt. The quality of her work was good, but it wasn't really what I was after. Maybe some artists prefer full creative license, but that doesn't work for me because it's going to be on my body for a long time.

Wonderful atmosphere Great conversation Excellent service

Absolutely wonderful atmosphere and conversation with Cres. He stayed open late just to get me taken care of and generally was a joy to have him work on my body. 10/10

Great Experience Talented Artist Educational

I had the most wonderful experience with this shop for my first tattoo, a line of Sanskrit in the Devanāgarī script. I sat with Dana Knight, and she was thoughtful and wonderful and supportive and engaging. She really took time to understand what I wanted, she checked in with me regularly, and I felt really comfortable. Oh, and she's amazingly talented! The tattoo is basically perfection, just exactly how I hoped it might be. I recommend this place 100% for anyone getting their first tattoo, as they also do a great job educating on how to care for it, what to expect over time, etc. They offer touch-ups as needed as well, I think, which is great service.

All in all, five stars. Thank you!

Great Service Talented Artist Highly Recommended

Went here for my very first tattoo and was paired with Dana - who listened to my ideas and hang ups, answered every single one of my many questions and concerns, encouraged me to take time if I needed to think about things, and blew it away with the design she created. She really eased me into the appointment and took the time to explain each step so there was no surprises on my end. I am beyond thrilled with my new tattoo and it's healing so well, the line work is perfect. 10/10 definitely coming back and would recommend you give them a shot!

Exceptional Work Top Notch Service Collaborative Process Reasonable Pricing

Over the last few months I’ve gotten 2 large pieces done by Darren. Not only is the work exceptional, but everything from the front desk (shout out Glen!), to the cleanliness of the shop, to the collaborative process and pricing is top notch. From someone who has had an entire sleeve done from numerous other shops, I’ll be coming here exclusively for all future tattoos and couldn’t recommend Rising Tide enough!

Unprofessional Poor Time Management Disrespectful

I got a small linework tattoo done by Stevie M. this week. The tattoo itself was very well done, but she was precisely 3 hours late to our 2:00 appointment. She decided to keep working on the arm tattoo on a client that really should have been split into multiple sessions. I'm unsure whether this is a lack of time boundaries between client and artist or just a bad time estimate, but either way it was highly unprofessional. She didn't seem to care, only same out to say "thanks for being patient" and then, an hour and a half later, said "sorry for the wait" and acted as though nothing had happened. The interactions were very dismissive and insincere. Had my sister and I not driven an hour for this appointment, we would have left. This is valuable and limited family time that we took out of our weekend day and Stevie disrespected it. The work is great, but I would not book with her again knowing that her schedule cannot be relied on. The receptionist, however, was very friendly.
