Four family members and myself wanted to get tattoos while on vacation to the islands and John was accommodating to fit us all in before we had to leave. The shop is small (not a bad thing) and very clean. The overall experience was is a nice memory to have while on a family vacation.

When I asked how big the tattoos would be for what he was charging us, he seemed confused why I was asking. I referenced my smallest and largest tattoos and said that the smaller one cost more than the larger, and instead of answering professionally, John said, “I mean look at it” (in reference to the larger tattoo) and when my family members and I did not say anything he continued to say, “You get what you pay for,” insinuating that the quality of the tattoo was not that great.

This conversation happened the day before we got the tattoos and were asking him if he could fit us in before we left the island. It was incredibly awkward and off-putting, and if my family members hadn’t wanted to get the tattoos I wouldn’t have gone back to his shop.

Such a great overall experience getting a tattoo by Jon. Exactly what I wanted and imagined. Jon was just so friendly and hilarious. Good vibes at his shop, and professional service! Will definitely come again my next visit to Kauai!

Both of these guys that run this shop are amazing and seriously talented, I’m not a local to the area and asked Brian to help me out with an awesome tattoo and he did without hesitation. Jon did an excellent job on my Polynesian tribal half arm sleeve. I gave him some examples of what I was looking for and he drew it up and was better than I could have asked. He is super cool and laid back and made 5 hours in the chair fly by. If you’re on Kauai and looking for a tattoo definitely stop by Blue Wave.

I contacted Mr Brian Sveniker Shay and inquire about an Anchor and Hawaiian flag tattoo
Mr Brian Sveniker Shay gave me an estimated price of $600 ($700.00 max) for a tattoo designed by him.

Well, it’s a tattoo. Once the project started you have to continue the process. He wasn’t able to estimate the price properly neither the time and yet the artwork itself presented by him (well you can see with your own eyes) after 6 hours in his studio. That’s what’s it looks like.

Yes I’ve paid $700.00 plus tip then I have to pay again for another 2 hours (because it was very unfinished) ... over $1000.00
Artwork is very inconsistent from the beginning to the “end” yet unfinished to this day. He has to hold himself accountable for his work.
As you can see he has just not reviews AT ALL.

PS: The Hawaiian flag tattoo consists of (8 stripes) in any Hawaiian flag. Representing the 8 islands. He managed to give me 11 stripes. That’s right! Why not add extra stripes in a blank space?
The flag is itself wavy and the stripes are straight making it very uneven. Showing careless for the costumers and the tattoo itself.

I was also left with a bruise on my upper shoulder as seeing in the last picture. I never gave permission and he never gave me an assessment about the fact the upper shoulder would have to have a darker tone so the white strip from the flag could be seeing as shown in the picture.

As far I’ve heard and I have met as well 3 other people that have gotten their tattoes completely messed up and also poorly delivered by Brian Sveniker Shay.

I contacted him in attempt to collect part of my money back, because I work hard for it. He said the policy is no refunds. I told him all the facts including showing the tattoo delivered by him had beyond uneven lines in the Anchor. (Couldn’t deliver straight lines either). He refused to give me partially the money back and offering me a “free session”

The “free session” or a “paid session” consists of Mr Brian sveniker shay answering the door and talking with clients, taking walk ins and seeing pictures (doing business during a well paid session, all this during a procedure being performed) that’s right; while he is tattooing clients. Sometimes even stoping the tattoo and wait for a $60.00 cash deposit to come back. He claims that the $60.00 dollars cash is to secure the booking with him. He doesn’t have a wait list. To secure what?! In my second session. He took off his gloves and waited for a possible guy to come back and pay the deposit. Luckily the guy never came back.
I wouldn’t go back not even for free.

He also does lots of “Blocking”, yes that’s right blocking other tattoo artists of interacting with possible costumers. He blocks even his own cousin from interacting with possible clients. Mahalo for the experience!. If wasn’t Jon in there he probably wouldn’t have anybody coming to the shop. He haven’t had a review in over a year and that’s a fact.

His cousin (Jon) tattoo artist at Blue Wave Tattoe has actually a consistent artwork and have actually had really good art designed in people’s bodies. he’s a qualified as far tattooing people. I’ve found out afterwards. It was just a little bit too late.

Lots of artwork tattoes posted in his personal Facebook account Brian sveniker shay are actually work from other artists visiting the studio (guests artists) sometimes he doesn’t even mention them (the artists names) and those masterpieces are NOT his work. Be advised. Giving the unattended public the illusion that he can deliver those masterpieces or complexes detailed tattoes. He CANNOT, it’s a fact.

I got my first tattoo here while I was visiting Kauai with my family and girlfriend. Jon did a great job with the line work and did it at a far more reasonable price than other tattoo shops on the island were quoting me and my girlfriend. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get a tattoo in Kauai.
