Art & Soul Tattoo

As a person with anxiety and a strong fear of needles, getting my first piercing was very intimidating. But, Spanky (the piercer) was phenomenal. He related to my fears using his personal history with needles and was very clear about what was going on throughout the visit. He did nothing as a surprise and he gave me plenty of time to ease my nerves before the needle went through. Art and Soul is clearly an amazing place to get a piercing and I can’t wait to go there again soon.

I just recently got my second & third tattoo done here (also where I got my first & my nose done) & I honestly can say I leave happy EVERY single time. Blaine does a really great job. Everyone there is super friendly, funny & helpful whenever you need it. I recommend Art & Soul to everyone that is looking!

My daughter got her cartilage pierced on her birthday here. She was super scared but the guy doing the piercing was great. He didn't sugar coat it at all.He explained the whole process to her before he did anything. After he was done he went over the importance of the after care with her. She is doing great with it and she can't wait until she can charge out the hoop!!

Here was our personal experience with Art & Soul's customer service and the reasons we chose to not have any work done at this shop.
The guy at the front desk was fine overall. He was pleasant, we told him what we needed, and he politely answered our questions, but when we were sent back to speak with Blaine about doing cover up work, Blaine apparently was in the middle of working with a client (so it was super awkward to interrupt him even though we were told to go back there). When we got there, he basically just looked at us like "what do you want?" And asked us zero questions about how he could help us. He ended up sending us back to the front desk just to get his card and contact him later. But while we were there he said he usually just draws something up the night before a customer's appointment, which struck me as odd because what if we didn't like his design or wanted to make adjustments? Do we then have to reschedule our session? (Seems like a pretty half-a**ed way to design a tattoo for a client in my opinion - if that works for others, great, but im not comfortable with that). They're way booked out too so if we needed to adjust any designs, especially with the large amount of work we need done,, we'd be waiting quite some time to get another appointment. But then when we got back to the front desk to get Blaine's card, we mentioned again that we were needing cover up work done, the guy at the front desk ended up telling us that someone entirely different (Luke) was who we would want to work with for that kind of work. So I thought, we already told you this so why did you direct us to speak with Blaine in the first place if he wasn't the guy for the job at this shop? It was a waste of time for all involved.
We just got a really weird feeling about the place and the people there, so even though we liked some of the work we saw, it just gave us a bad vibe and we decided to move on to some other shop for our work. We will keep doing our research and won't be going to Art & Soul.

I got my belly button pierced here almost 4 years ago and I was super nervous. I don't like needles or pain or anything but I had Spanky and he did so well with me. He was calm and patient and I have never had a problem with my piercing! I spontaneously decided to get my nose pierced not too long ago and walked in to this place hoping that Spanky was there, he was not but Katie was. She was just as calm and just as patient with me! I absolutely love this place! Once I get up enough courage, I'm definitely coming here to get a tattoo! This place is very clean, professional, and friendly!! I recommend it to everyone!

I am currently getting a sleeve finished by Blaine at Art and Soul in Portage and he is by far the best tattoo artist i have ever encountered. Very professional and his personality is so easy to engage with while having a session. He is very sympathetic to everyone’s feelings during the tattoo process and also perfects each piece with his own style. I highly recommend him and the shop to anyone who is wanting a high quality tattoo or piercing done at a fair price!!

Go somewhere else where the artists actually take pride in their work. Rude employees and awful quality tattoo done by Luke Forton.

I had a great piercing experience here. The counter people were very professional, friendly, and accomodating. I called ahead of time and got all my questions answered promptly. Spanky is a great piercer. I got paired nostril piercings, which Spanky lined up multiple times before they pierced to get the look perfect. Ill definitely be coming back here to get my eyebrows pierced once my nose is healed up!

Over two years ago, I got a tattoo on my upper arm. Fast forward to now, I decided I wanted to get a background surrounding my original image. The original tattoo artist retired, so I went with someone I had never spoken to or met before. Being a couple hours away from Kalamazoo, it was hard to communicate my idea of the upcoming tattoo but when the day came, Blaine did an amazing job of drawing up a background better than I could imagine. He was very friendly, understanding, and patient with me through the process. My entire experience and finished product was worth the time and money. Thank you Blaine!
