SCAMMY. Contacted Josh about a tattoo in November, paid for the deposit and then was ghosted. Till the day AFTER my appointment day. We never set a time for February, just the day.
I called, left voicemails, stopped by the shop, emailed for weeks before our February appointment with NO RESPONSE. Finally the day AFTER my appointment he contacts me. No apology, no explanation just deposits non-refundable.
I contacted the BBB. What he is doing is theft and classified as a misdemeanor. He's playing a scam and hiding behind non-refundable. Don't waste your time or money here. I would suggest finding a different artist.

I was tattooed by Josh and I can't tell yall how much I love the work he did! It looks sooo awesome! The whole experience was great. Josh was very professional and good to work with. His shop was easy to find and very clean and inviting. I would recommend black alter to anyone looking for a quality tattoo shop. Thanks Josh!

Black Alter (Josh Hawkins) was highly recommended to me to do a cover up. Unfortunately my experience was very poor. Josh arrived late to my appointment, his studio is filthy and he appeared to be strung out. Josh only spent 45 minutes of a 3 hour appointment and then suggested that I call his wife Tera Hawkins and schedule for his next available appointment. After multiple attempts to reach Tera and giving Josh the benefit of the doubt due to them having my $200 deposit I was finally schedule again a week out. One hour before my appointment that was scheduled for 3pm Tera text me and said Josh was sick. I was then rescheduled for another week out. I contacted Tera the day before my appointment to confirm. She confirmed my appointment. The next day, the day of my appointment once again Tera contacted me with a scheduling conflict and canceled my appointment. I informed her that this was not going to workout and requested my deposit back. No surprise: neither Josh or Tera will respond to my text, calls or emails. Josh may be an amazing artist but there is no doubt in my mind that he is struggling with affection and like many people with addiction is making poor decisions. Please avoid this business and hope for Tera and Josh to get the help they need.

I can't say enough about the professionalism of Black Alter Tattoo !! Josh makes the process flawless and sleek from the initial meeting. I was able to bring my ideas to josh and was completely blown away by how he took those and crafted something so unique and beautiful! I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for quality art !!

I've dealt with Josh numerous times. He's always punctual, courteous and wanting to put the best piece on his clients. Great guy to be around. Chill and down to earth. People need to get in before this place gets booooooooked.
