Reviews (100)
My review is strictly based off of the booking manager. I have emailed them multiple times and even got to the point of expressing the type of tattoo and sending in all the information I was asked. You would think that after Al of that an appointment would have been made but nope. The booking manager just completely stopped responding to my emails after asking for the information and photos and me sending them in. I’m not really sure if or how to go about getting an appointment but I guess it’s not meant to be so I’ll just move on.

Ryan Henry botched my tattoo and stole my money!! Stay away, they’re ghetto and untrustworthy and UNPROFESSIONAL. They have no manners and no integrity!! He damaged a tattoo that was a dedication to my deceased mother!!!!
November 10, 2022, received a tattoo by Ryan Henry and my experience was phenomenal! I chose him to create a tattoo that's got a lot of meaning and he blew it out of the water! I knew what I wanted but I had no style or vision for creativity. His freestyling is beyond any words that can be spoken because he's a true artist.
Ryan welcomed me and my family with open arms and treated us like superstars. Him and his crew are humble and welcoming. Kitty was just as amazing and supported me throughout the entire process. Many thanks to you as well Kitty.
Lastly, Ryan comes highly recommended by me and he's one the coolest guys I've ever met. I know that I've thanked you a million times already, but I'm saying thank you again for bringing to life what I thought was impossible. You're my hero who runs an amazing business!

Mark was fantastic, he did an excellent job on a tattoo for a friend that was visiting from out of state. Entire staff was very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely come back for my tattoo😊

We was excited to see the place and be here. But it wasn’t what we expected we walked in and nobody really spoke or said anything we didn’t feel welcome, we didn’t receive a greeting.
It was just a bunch of attitudes.
But maybe because Ryan wasn’t there but it was a horrible experience and I’m really not the one to give bad reviews because we where all here on vacation and once again we was excited.
But it was a bunch of attitudes and very unwelcoming.

Amazing shop, the staff is great and they really work with you (at least for piercing which is all I have had). Brittany Slam has done all my piercings and she is great!

My experience at 9 Mag was very warm welcoming. The receptionist Brittany was respectful, and has good customer services skills. Styles is the one who done my tattoo. She was very gentle and friendly. My overall experience was everything I expected. Thanks again 9 Mag.

I was a big fan of the show and the Artist Ryan Henry but after this experience, I no longer feel the same way. If you can even get a solid appointment, make sure your tattoo is finished that day. DO NOT TRUST GETTING REBOOKED TO FINISH. If he doesn’t finish your tattoo, negotiate a partial payment which is something I didn’t do unfortunately. I’ve been cancelled on multiple times and his assistant either doesn’t coordinate with the artist or they’re just for show. After so many attempts at reaching out, showing up to the shop, I still couldn’t secure a follow up to finish my tattoo after nearly 4 months. I only have 10% of a tattoo and out of $1200 not including the $100. I should’ve followed my intuition when my appointment was for 9pm and when I got there he was still tattooing someone, said it would be another 45min and after 2 hrs he asked if I want to reschedule, I should’ve said yes because that way I would be down $100 instead of 12x that. Didn’t get started until 2am, I only stayed because of my fandom but never again. At this point I’ve been completely ghosted, the assistant stopped responding over a month ago. I went up the shop 2 weeks ago, talked to Slam (the piercer) and she said Ryan would reach out that same day and that she would see to it, apparently customers that provide him the lifestyle he lives aren’t as important, I guess since he’s gotten his money upfront, there’s no urgency. I never heard a word back. This place is terrible with clients. It’s no wonder that the several times I’ve been there, hardly no artist are there like the show perceives. Lights, camera, action, everyone is professional and about their business, but when the lights and cameras are down, it’s all shady. 9 Mag needs to get it together. I’m ready to get in touch with Ryan’s mother at this point.

Prince (IG: @blackprince290) cancelled on me last minute TWICE - and was aware I was visiting from California. Ryan Henry, 9Mags owner, should be responsible for his artists as well. Someone needs to be accountable, treat customers/clients time and self with respect and GIVE ME MY $$$ BACK!
I was visiting Chicago for work so I booked an appt with Prince for April 14th via his booking site and paid my deposit on the 9th for a simple cross tattoo. I received a text message from the booking site confirming that Prince accepted and confirmed my appt. I also text him before my appt to confirm and asked what the address was. He sent me an address, so the next morning I jumped in an uber and arrived at NOT 9Mag, but Apartment Source. I contacted Prince who said he was going to tatt me at his apartment and that he was out running errands so he wouldn't be available until 4pm. I informed Prince that I had to be at the airport at 2pm and that's why I booked my appt for 10am on my only free day. He said he'd meet me at Noon instead, which didn't work for me. I asked for a refund and said maybe I'd try another time. I let him know I didn't have plans to return to Chicago and would prefer a refund. He said he does not give refunds and that 'when' I was back in Chicago I could come to him and he'd "take care of me."
Well luckily my company decided to have another event in Chicago in July, so I hit up Prince and asked when he had availability. He gave me the option of July 18 or 19th at 1pm. I clarified the 18th was perfect and asked again for the address. This time he sent me the 9Mag shop address. At 9:57am I texted Prince saying I'd see him at 1pm. At 12:28pm I received a text back saying "shop is closed until tomorrow afternoon just came from there usually the receptionist would be there but we are closed today let's try same time tomorrow." The 19th did not work with my schedule and I let him know I couldn't make that. He then sent me a screenshot of the shop web page hours s

Soooo, I’m unsure how one can have a business, post that you’re open, but when I call it goes straight to voicemail and says the mailbox is full🤨. Seems like a cell phone is the main business line, which is weird for a so-called well-established business like 9MAG. Then the website is defunct. There’s no other contact info on Google, like an email. And after reading the experience another would-be patron had with Prince cancelling twice and then not giving her deposit back is just ridiculous (if that’s how it all happened). I was wanting to get a tattoo covered and a new one. Most of all, I wanted to try to support this Black business, despite some of the foolishness I’ve seen on their show. But, if I can’t even get you to answer your phone at your business, that’s an immediate turn-off. Needless to say, I won’t be using 9MAG.

First time in Chicago. I had to go to 9Mag. I had no appointment. I was a walk in. I was greeted very professional. I was excited to see Prince was my artist. I want him to be the person to do my tattoo. Prince was very professional during my consultation for my design. He display so much compassionate about how I wanted my memorial tattoo for my brother. Thank you so much.
