The Gilded Mermaid Tattoo Studio

I could not ask for a better atmosphere in a tattoo studio! My first piece done at The Gilded Mermaid was done by Dennis. My last two were done by Nick Rose and they are unbelievable! I drive from just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina to go to this studio, it is worth every bit of the drive! I will never use another studio, I'm already planning my next piece with Nick!

David was amazing. Such detailed work. It's like a painting on my arm. He was professionally, polite, and friendly. He made sure I was comfortable. Shop was very clean. They followed covid protocols, so I felt very safe there. I'm so glad I was able to find such am amazing artist!!

Do you ever walk into a place and it feels like a past life? That was how I felt when I walked into TGM and the experience was incredible from that moment forward. I had a tattoo from another artist that wasn't bringing me happiness anymore and I set out on finding an artist that would be interested in fixing/reworking it, Lil Round just happened to be the exact person I was looking for to have it done. He brought new life to this tattoo that had previously brought me embarrassment, and I can't wait to have more work done by him in the future. The shop is absolutely beautiful inside, and you can tell that love and care went into the curation of the space. My grandfather was a merchant marine and worked on oil rigs, my grandparents house was like a mini maritime museum and that's exactly what it felt like stepping inside TGM. I started getting tattooed by Nick Rose about 2 years ago. He has a vast background in art, absolutely crushes American traditional and traditional tattooing with his own twist and he’s not just a great tattooer, but a great ARTIST! Rad ideas, flash designs, t-shirts even. He’s always professional, friendly, on time and courteous. I love the vibe of the Gilded Mermaid since I’ve been getting tattooed here and anybody who hasn’t booked an appointment here is missing out. Stop letting your buddy tattoo your lower back with his homemade machine made out of toothpicks and a nose trimmer and book a session here with Nick or one of their other artists!!! 10/10

I’ve been coming back to Chad over the years. He’s one of the best, and my personal favorite of the artists in Charleston. Lil Round has also tattooed me, and his portrait hasn’t faded at all over the past decade. Solid staff, great work, good environment. I’ll be back as soon as possible!

It’s so scary trying to find a tattoo artist to entrust with etching something permanently on your body. I’m just glad I came across @lilroundtattoo’s IG account! I was drawn to his style and skill, but equally impressed with his proclamation that “clients are not a canvas. They are humans that should be treated with care, kindness and respect.”

My entire experience with Lil Round and team at The Gilded Mermaid studio was beyond expectation - from how I was treated after my initial email to after my tattoo was complete; to the vibe of the studio; the cleanliness; and above all, Lil Round’s ability to take a sketch from my dad and collaborate to create a beautiful piece of art that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I love my tattoo so much!

I also love that he is eco-friendly and vegan safe! Talk about going above and beyond and thinking of others and our planet! I love it!

Where to begin....? I have been looking for a place to do a memorial piece for my late father. I love the traditional, "Sailor Jerry" inspired look, and done well, an artist that can do it is hard to find. Enter Nick Rose. I got a few pieces done by Nick over 10 years ago and loved every single one of them. I always though how cool it would be to get another done by him. After much searching, I found that he had moved and was working here!!! We were able to do a consult, swap ideas, over email, etc., and given a lot of latitude, I was eager to see what he would come up with.

On the day of, I was impressed by the mature feeling of the very clean, very calm environment. Nick met me and showed me the design and I was blown away! Very professional in the way he applied the tattoo, phenomenal line work, rich colors. His professionalism, artistic abilities, and ability to do one hell of a tattoo will have me coming back for years to come. Thanks, Nick, and everyone else at The Gilded Mermaid for an amazing experience.

I really love the Gilded Mermaid. I've gotten 2 tattoos with Betsy who does excellent work. The shop itself is beautiful and clean. The owner and other tattoo artists will sometimes pop in to see what Betsy is working on, and I think that is so cool; a family atmosphere. Everybody who I've interacted with is so nice. Also, they have snacks (yess!!)

Awesome studio and super clean all around. Couldn’t have found a better spot that has a great ambience, decor, staff and artists. Lil Round did a killer job, was very gentle and had state of the art equipment. He even added in an extra tattoo last second per my request. Great price and top work. Best in Charleston no question.

Simply the best. Great artists, great experience. Nick has tattooed me multiple times, and is an amazing artists. Everyone there is rad, and they make sure you have a smooth, comfortable experience. 10/10 recommend
