Absolutely love coming here. It's always clean, professional and the employees are well informed and will answer or get answers to questions. I also recommend asking for Lindsey for piercings she has done 4 of mine and was extremely supportive and aware of how I was feeling each time. She even worked patiently with me for me to make a decision on 1 of my placements. 🙂

So I had a tattoo artist from another tattoo shop practically bail on me last minute. So I called Pens & Needles and talked to Kris. She said she could call me back with some information. She never did due to their phone lines being down. She took it into her own hands and called me personally off her own cellphone to establish i was not being forgotten! Something like this is super appreciative & professional! I’ve called so many tattoo shops with no call backs. I’ve had multiple pieces done by these guys, and I never have been disappointed. By far the nicest receptionist I’ve dealt with! I really appreciate you homie! :)

Mike was so professional, down to earth, and percise. He listened to what I wanted and made sure I got exactly that. I definitely would recommend this shop to anyone and well worth the drive from Denver. He took good care of my girlfriend and I. Can't wait to come back for another.

Mike is easily the most professional, most comforting piercer I’ve ever had! He made the whole experience so easy and calmed my nerves. Definitely would recommend him 10/10!

The first time I walked in this place I thought I accidentally walked into a dentist's office. That's how clean it is. The people hear are great and I love the work I got done by Jason. I'll be going back and starting a big project with Xander and I can't wait.

Had an awesome experience with the tattoo artist Skylar! The place was very clean and welcoming, and the tattoo rooms themselves are nice and private. Skylar did an excellent job and made a really simple tattoo so special!

I am using a basic rubric that all should apply in all tattoo shop reviews. For 5 stars, I have 5 categories. They are 1) Cleanliness, 2) Professionalism, 3) Talent, 4) Relevancy and 5) Time/Value.
1) Cleanliness: I arrived at the location and the crew definitely takes the opportunity to keep the place clean to include the bathrooms. In fact, it smells like a hospital which is to be expected with the use of green soap and other items of the trade. For this reason, I decided this particular location earned a star.
2) Professionalism: I have mixed feeling son this one. When I arrived, the brother at the front desk was awesome and everything you would expect in customer service. For that I am grateful. Here is where it gets mixed for me. I originally set my appointment out and did a deposit more than a month out from my scheduled time. I did my research online, which meant I looked at each artists portfolio to see who specializes in what I want done. Of all my research, I saw that Austin would be the best for this particular piece. I also chose him because if he could complete my test piece, he would earn a more lucrative piece. This is how it went down… I received an email stating some other artist would be doing this piece, they received my inquiry ( which included pictures, dimensions, description, etc.) and that they would need a set amount of time and a specific amount for deposit. What happened to Austin? He was the artist I chose, and I did not get a call or email to explain why they shift to another artist. I showed up for my appointment and the artist eventually came out to get me (late on their end and they were in their space) and they never contacted me once to work on the consultation. Instead, it seems this shop will do a consultation on the day of your appointment. Within the first minute of meeting the artist, it was clear they did not read the dimensions or understand what exactly needed to be done. Once I explained they stated they did not account for enough time. This quickly created strike 2. I stayed optimistic because I could tell they needed the practice, and the piece was small enough that I believed they could not ruin it. For this category they receive a half star.
3) Talent: Picking up from the previous category, I was wrong. However, I have done these enough times to know when to call it quits. They had issues with the stencil placement as well as needle size. Fortunately, I was there to coach them through it. I started to chit chat with them and also inquired about what they believe the aftercare would be. This is when strike 3 occurred. I could tell they had not inked in this particular area before and they had the aftercare all wrong. Not only that, they were having issues with outline and the stencil they struggled with. I politely created a stopping point which was allowing them to finish the outline. I am sure they create beautiful pieces, this just was not their specialty or comfort area. This bring me back to why I was handed off. For this category they receive no star.
4) Relevancy: Drawing back to my opening, I have definitely toured the tattoo conventions and been inked by pros seen on television, such as NY Ink, Ink master, etc. I did not see anything cutting edge in the portfolios. This is not necessarily a bad thing as I believe many of these artists are coming up. I do believe they are mastering their craft and have something to offer to the community. If you are looking at the portfolios, I would say realism and portrait is not a specialty at this particular shop. However, you do have some folks that are mastering new school style and the various subcategories within it. For this category they receive a half star.
5) Time/Value: Considering the issues above, I would not recommend this shop. But again, you may be on a tight budget and you have something that can be easily accomplished with a stencil, so this may be a place for you. However, for this category I am giving them no star.

Seriously the worst customer service in a tattoo shop I’ve ever had. It took me over a month to just get a consultation. I called and emailed twice within those four weeks. Then I got a random call saying someone could get me tattooed the next day and the artist would call me for a “consultation”. Luckily I had no plans and could make the appointment. I never got the call and had to reach out, again, on what was happening. If it was a set appointment, if I was supposed to show up still. ONE HOUR before the supposed appointment, I finally heard from someone and was confirmed to go in.
Second time communication was horrible was with a guest artist of this shop. I had emailed her initially Nov of 2021 trying to get on books for February 2022. She gave a response a week later and said she had availability and asked what I wanted. I gave several ideas and didn’t hear back. She emailed me back TWO MONTHS later on Feb 5th and said she could do one of them on Feb 15th during her guest week. I said I would make it work and asked for confirmation that it was at the location on Weber St. Again, ghosted and it’s now the day before my “appointment”.
Go to any other of the amazing shops in this city. The name change doesn’t change the unprofessionalism.
