I have been going here for about 6 months now. I needed to finish both of my sleeves and touch up quite a bit of old work. Personally I worked with Josh Orville and Nathan Rice. I constantly receive compliments on the art they have blessed my body with. The shop currently have 5 artists and each artist is very talented, they all have their own style/technique so there's plenty of options. I cannot say enough good things about this place and the artists that work here. The shop is very welcoming with great vibes and conversations. This place is super clean with comfy chairs. They use high quality ink so if you are looking for color it'll stay bright for years to come. This is the best tattoo shop in Kansas City hands down.

Definitive Tattoo truly lives up to its name; if you're looking for a place in Kansas City to get a beautiful tattoo, this is absolutely one of the best shops to go to. I've been getting work done by Orville for years, so when I heard that he decided to open his own shop, I knew whoever he did it with would be good people with some serious skill. One look at their Instagram page will tell you that's absolutely correct. The shop itself is welcoming and has a really cool, fun aesthetic. I've only included shots of the waiting area in my review, but the artists' areas are individually set up to showcase their unique personalities and talents. Every part of it has something interesting to look at without being overwhelming. On top of keeping an extremely high standard of work, they keep an extremely high standard of sanitation. Everything has separate containers, which there are plenty of, and they keep all surfaces clean and clear. Being a somewhat clumsy person, I accidentally got a drop of blood on a restroom wall. I let Orville know and he immediately thanked me and went to clean/sanitize the area. The piece I got done was one I'd started with Orville a few years prior, a shoulder/arm tattoo dedicated to my grandpa and his favorite movie Forbidden Planet, which also got me started on my lifelong love of sci-fi. After an all-day session, it turned out absolutely stunning; between Orville's beautiful use of color and artistic talent, it looks like the original oil painting landscape was done directly on me. Robby's metallic shading pops against the vivid teals, browns, and purples. The planets, the C-57D, everything came together perfectly. It's exactly what I wanted and I couldn't be happier. I'm currently planning on coming back and extending it out into a full classic sci-fi sleeve. I found the artist on Instagram and drove to KC from South Dakota. The drive was 100% worth it! The shop is clean, organized and has a great atmosphere. There is televisions all around to provide something to watch or something to listen to while getting your tattoo. I had an all day tattoo by Orville and he was very nice, welcoming and made the day fly by. He was very detailed with my tattoo which resulted in a beautiful piece of art on my arm. All of the artist in the studio were very nice, welcoming and motivating I can't imagine getting my tattoo anywhere else. If you are on the fence just go ! **Update** I have gone back to continue my horror sleeve with the same artist. I have added an additional photo of it. Seriously, these people at this shop KNOW how to tattoo. Still extremely clean, very nice and have great merch to rep the shop!

If you’re looking for a special specific style of tattoo they have got you covered. I personally love Ashley’s style. I recommend this shop to everyone.

Definitive is a peculiar, delightful blend of modern gallery and hunting lodge-- cozy with its dark walls and latern-lit taxidermy pieces. Orville greeted me promptly at 9am, inviting me in from out of the cold. After some basic health & safety paperwork, Orville presented his design and we were starting within the hour. Orville has a kind face-- is a welcoming energy that made conversation flow. Through my endless questions & comments, he diligently followed his line work-- ink blooming from his needles to reveal smooth, clean strokes in my skin. The unicorn slowly took form with each passing minute. He seemed to intuitively know whenever I needed a break. I have determined that my fidgeting was undetectable and that he must be a psychic. With 6pm nearing, Orville put the finishing touches into the piece-- fine white highlights, shadows pooling through the background, stars to balance the edges. He brought a mythical being into reality, which is really all in a day's work for a tattooist of Orville's skill. Wrapped and taped, I left Definitive with a full heart. The care that was taken of me, the absolute dedication to excellence-- to art...I have yet to stop staring at my arm. You could walk into a dozen shops and not find the feeling that Definitive invokes. It is a shop without parallel.

Each visit has been a great experience. Friendly environment. You sit down in a chair and enjoy the company of the whole shop, not just the artist working on you. It truly feels like visiting with old friends each time.

Orville Vaughn is second to none. Spent a lot of time with him getting a full sleeve + other miscellaneous tats. Great guy, easy to work with, and incredibly talented. His art background shows. I'd always recommend Orville or any other of the other Definitive artists!
