Carter did a graffiti tattoo for me over 10 years ago. So precise and still looks like new.

I’ve worked with Aaron on two pieces and I can’t be happier with how they’ve turned out. He’s excellent at taking an idea and designing a tattoo that fits the body and looks incredible. I can’t wait to book my next appointment. The shop itself is a cool atmosphere, very relaxed and easy going. I definitely recommend if you’re looking for a great tattoo in the Columbus area.

Started my first tattoo with Carter a few weeks ago after following their work for years- can't wait to go back! Very easy to work with and gave me exactly what I wanted.

Had a tattoo done by Carter maybe three years ago and I cannot wait to have it finally removed soon. I went in for something entirely different, was convinced to change my plan last minute and have regretted it ever since. My bear is often called “owl” or “raccoon” because it’s not recognizable at all. The face is terrible and I’ve been wearing long sleeves since getting it instead of proudly showing off the artwork. I should have left as soon as the design started changing.

Got a half sleeve from Carter over the course of two sessions in the fall of 2021. It was my first tattoo so I was pretty nervous, especially considering it was so visible being on my forearm, but it was a great experience; the studio was clean and everyone was very friendly. And, perhaps most importantly, the tattoo came out incredible. I spent months researching artists in the Columbus area and I provided Carter very limited guidelines and he was able to produce a masterpiece that came out better than I could have imagined. I couldn’t recommend Carter or his shop more.

Ao is such a talented artist! Not only do I love my piece visually, but it healed perfectly (and quickly!). On top of that the entire experience felt safe and comfortable. They're amazing!

Pretentious, typical ego driven tattoo "ARTIST" BS. Unwelcoming and excuse after excuse even with full artist control. Went in to see if the environment had changed due to confirmation from numerous people of uninviting and sheer dickery. Unfortunately, this is pretty typical and doesn't need to be. Remember a true artist will guide the customer. Not the case here but actually pretty typical from what I hear. Bold will hold, find someone who will make you feel comfortable, let a good artist have control and stay away from pretentious ego driven "ARTISTS" with poopy Britches.

Reached out in the beginning of September to try to get on the books. Called and left detailed voicemail. Emailed. Even sent a DM to the shop instagram. I ended up choosing a different shop and was very pleased with my experience at the other shop. Unfortunately poor communication loses customers.

Cloven is a clean and friendly neighborhood tattoo shop.

The communication aspect of the artists here is really lacking. I emailed Carter about a tattoo idea and he responded a week later saying yes, he will do my tattoo and asked for some more information. I sent him a reply with all the information needed about my tattoo, and never got a response. I waited 2 weeks and sent a follow up email, asking if my other email was lost. No response. I waited 3 weeks again and called the shop (during their open hours) and left a voicemail explaining that I never got email responses and I was worried they might have gotten lost, and left my name and phone number. No call back. This obviously does not impact the quality of their art because they all appear to be amazing artists and I wish I could have gotten a tattoo done there. It’s just extremely frustrating that Carter agreed to do my tattoo and then never responded, despite multiple attempts to reach out. Especially during a pandemic where I could not just stop in and talk in person, communication online is super important.

Everything you want out of a tattoo experience, they have!! Great service, very patient and willing to work with you, beautiful art and a friendly atmosphere. I wont be going anywhere else for a tattoo, no one else could measure up.

Had my first tattoo with Aaron yesterday. Aaron took my idea and really knocked it out of the park. The photo doesn't do justice to his amazing line work. He was super efficient with his work and his attention to detail is very obvious. I am beyond elated with it and can't wait for it to be completely healed. Cloven is very clean and organized, and I felt super comfortable there. I will definitely be going back for my next tattoo. Cheers!
