Horrible communication Wrong reference photos Zero discussion of art preferences Zero communication during tattoo Wrong estimate of duration Inconsistent information around healing process

Horrible experience. Great tattoo. This review is about Patrick Cat, not the studio as a whole, which appeared clean, nice aesthetic. This was my 8th tattoo, and a memorial tattoo to my cat that saved my life from depression. My experience is below for your consideration:

Pros: gorgeous tattoo, clean studio. Added 2 missing elements upon arrival.

Cons: Horrible communication, wrong reference photos, ZERO discussion of art preferences past initial conversation. Zero communication during tattoo of time expectations. Zero check in about satisfaction at the end. Missing the few key elements I specified as crucial to capturing the memorial. Completely wrong estimate of duration. Inconsistent information around healing process.

Long form: When I arrived, the watercolor art for the tattoo used *two* reference photos that I explicitly asked Patrick *not* to use. The main photo he chose shows my cat's illness, and I can see it in her face. I'd taken considerable time to send clear, detailed messages with reference photos. I sent a few others for consideration, hoping to have this design echo a key element of the sleeve on my other arm. This was not done (and never mentioned if he decided it just didn't work for his vision. I was very open to that discussion).

I am very comfortable following the lead of the artist. Patrick has room for improvement in that he did not narrate his choices prior to the visit. If he needed better lighting or photo quality, I could have found that for him ahead of time.

I flew in from Colorado for this tattoo, and to arrive, planning for a marathon tattoo (quoted 5-8 hours, ended up taking 10), and have the wind knocked out of you because the art is so different from my direct request--it really sucked.

He had warned me he's a quiet, focused artist, but he has huge room for improvement around communicating during a session: progress made, expectation for duration. Despite being quoted 5-8 hours, we took a solid 10 with no conversation about how I was doing or that he expected it to go long. He changed the design mid-tattoo without discussion. He also closed and washed the tattoo at the end without asking if I was satisfied or saw need for finishing touches. From there, he told me 3 different durations for Saniderm wear. I had no confidence in him by that point.

The tattoo is gorgeous and well done. However, these things that add up to an experience I cannot recommend to anyone. Proceed with caution.

Beautiful Studio Talented Artists Easy Booking Process Respectful and Caring

I have been to Misery & Company a few times as I have gotten tattooed by 2 of their artists. The studio is beautiful, each artist has their space and it's a very welcoming place. I have 2 tattoos by Jane the Stranger (Valerie), both were flash pieces which I love. Valerie's style is amazing, her booking process is easy and all the flash is amazing. A punctual artist, who treats their clients in the best way, is respectful and cares about how you feel through the appointment. I would get tattoed by Valerie again without thinking. I also have 2 tattoos by Patrick Cat, also an amazing artist with a beautiful style of tattooing. Both of my pieces with him were costum and were better than what I imagined. He is respectful, punctual and cares about the client. I would also get more tattoos by Patrick Cat, because I love his art. I also bought a piece of jewelry made by Dani that is beautiful and unique.

Talented Artist Great Service Patient

I’ve been to Val a few times and she’s been very patient with my tattoo cover up, the design, and the whole process which has been quite lengthy now! I have gotten 3 tattoos there now from her and I don’t think I could go to anyone else. She’s very talented and does an amazing job!

Great Artists Comfortable Studio

I’ve gotten tattoos from Roberto (@stuffnlines) and Valerie (@janethestranger) and loved my experiences with both of them! I love the way the studio is set up; each artist has their own space that reflects their style. I felt understood and comfortable throughout the entire process for both pieces!

Outstanding Great Job Gorgeous

The photo doesn't do justice to the real tattoo but it's outstanding! Patrick did such a great job designing and tattooing this piece. I can't stop looking at it! It's gorgeous.

Talented Professional Comfortable Gentle Perfection Clean Fun Artwork Kind

Valerie is the sweetest, most professional and talented tattoo artist I’ve met. I practically fell asleep during my two appointments from how comfortable I felt and how gentle she is. Her work is perfection- she does minimalism/realism/surrealism/ all of the isms so well. I’m so in love with my giant gathering of sunflowers and wildflowers on my side. I plan to come back as soon as I have the funds to have her do more of my tattoos. The Misery and Co building itself is super clean, fun art work everywhere and everyone is kind. 10/10 experiences with them.

Tattoo Surrealism High Demand Top Notch

I got a tattoo done by Valerie (janethestranger) and I had a fantastic experience. Her work is top notch. If you like surrealism, there’s no one better in Utah. There’s a reason she’s in high demand. She’s worth the wait!
