I was reffered to them by my friend Tommy Z who also submitted a 5 star review, and I have to say I couldn't be more happy or impressed.
The shop was neat, clean, organized and looked great all around to say the least.
Haven't met the whole crew yet but Matty did some amazing work on my arm here I am writing this a week later and my tattoo is almost healed and looks absolutely amazing! Not only was he a nice guy that was easy to talk to which to me makes the time and the whole process go by faster and easier just chatting about random stuff but his price was more than reasonable for the quality, he was very quick in his work not wasting any time to maximize the time I was actually getting ink put in my skin. Afterwards they bandaged my tattoo up the right way with non stick "meat packing" slips. I was very impressed with everything about the shop. Will definitely be going back very very soon. Seeing all of Jasons work on the walls is amazing too that guy has some real talent that doesn't come around very often!

Josiah was awesome, took me today as a walk in and fit me in his schedule for a memorial tattoo for my uncle. Super friendly and engaging, worked to get it exactly how I wanted it, and pretty great prices for the quality of work he does! The piece turned out amazing and I'm definitely going to be back in the future for more work. Only warning I'd give is that they're cash only, so bring it with you before hand!
Update 10 months later! My tattoo has healed wonderfully, and you can barely tell it isn't fresh only because it doesn't have that shiny healing look anymore. It still means so much to me and I'm definitely hoping to go back for more work from Josiah. I couldn't recommend this shop more highly to anyone I know or anyone reading this.

Matty took me essentially as a walk in and gave my first tattoo today. He was great. Great guy, friendly, professional, clean. I told him what I wanted, he did it in less time than I thought it would, and with the quality in tact. Went over all the post tattoo care with me and made sure I was happy. Thanks, bud!

Best shop in Portland. Been going here since the original location on 23rd & Glisan. My wife has been going since their previous location on 3rd Ave. Jason and his staff are incredible at their craft. Jason is widely respected and has tattooed most of the tattoo artists in Portland. He is also incredibly talented, charming, and handsome. Jessica and Matty are awesome artists and stand up people to boot. In terms of truly great tattoo shops in Portland and the Metro area, there is a very short list. Art Work Rebels should be at the top of everyone's list. They will not disappoint.

I scheduled with an artist here who double booked me on my first appointment, then was ill, then had a scheduling conflict. 3 rescheduled appointments. I’m a single mom and had to finally bow out of the tattoo altogether due to school schedules etc. I admittedly did need to reschedule once in addition to the cancellation. I didn’t even attempt to get my deposit back, but it infuriates me that had she just not double booked me to begin with, it wouldn’t have been an issue. I did the responsible thing and booked when I knew 100% I’d be able to make it and through no fault of my own got the shaft. I understand things happen and have had tattoo artists get sick on me before. Life happens, I get it. But 3 reschedules and two of those being for scheduling conflicts, holy unprofessional Batman. I likely won’t bother trying to come back.

I had my neck tattoo done by a artist there and the work came out pretty good and detailed however it was about 2 hours away from being finished and after I scheduled two different appointment the artist ended up canceling them both after she had double booked the first one. I have yet to here back from anyone there and I’ve called and sent email I also have texted directly and have got no response and been ignored. It’s been months. I think it’s highly unprofessional. The least they could do is communicate with me and find a time to finish it because no ones wants to finish someone else’s work. I’m really disappointed and let down because I liked the artist and liked the artwork. Extremely disappointed that it’s been months and still can’t get my tattoo finished or someone to text or call back.

This review is for a tattoo I got with Matty. My brother passed away five years ago and I wanted to get a hamsa to commemorate his passing. I contacted Matty with an original custom design and said if he wanted to make minor changes to express himself that would be ok. We made an appointment for about two weeks out and several days before he asked me if I can come in earlier so he could squeeze someone else in last second after me. I told him I could come in an hour earlier if that would help and asked if he had finished the final design yet. He replied he really appreciated it and that he would finish the design as soon as he could. Two days before our appointment he sends a design with some changes and no color. I emailed back asking if it was possible to make a couple minor tweaks and wondering if the color would match the original design. He didn’t reply before our appointment.
During the tattoo he told me the day before he “didn’t get out of bed all day” which was upsetting that he couldn’t take the time to solidify the design. Halfway through I noticed he was free styling shading and patterns that weren’t in either design kind of making it up as he went along. It seems wrong to not get consent before changing something that’s going to be on my body for such a long time. Then he said it was done, but I noticed it wasn’t filled in with color like the original design and he said that if he filled it in it would lose all the detail. What was strange about that is my brothers initials were already in an area filled in and he didn’t seem concerned about losing those details. I told him I would like it filled in like the original design and he told me that the other patron was waiting. He suggested I could wait two weeks and decide then, but I told him I was pretty sure I wanted it filled in. He started getting angry and said fine he’ll just fill it in. It didn’t seem like a good idea to have an angry person give me a tattoo so I said I would come back in two weeks. He said he really appreciated me being flexible and that he wanted me to be happy with the tattoo.
Several days before our follow up appointment I emailed to confirm and he didn’t message me back. He seemed upset with me right from the start. My temperature was not taken like the last time and he also didn’t shave my arm or wash it like he did the first time. I was going to say something, but honestly I was in shock. Also, he didn’t have me sign any paperwork this time which combined with the other things seemed off. Immediately I could tell he was just trying to get through it as fast as he could. He filled in a portion and then said if he filled it in all the way it would lose detail. I pointed out I could see my brother’s initials and I that I wanted it filled in and he said fine if that’s what you want. There was a noticeable change in the pressure and it seemed like he was drilling it in out of frustration. I asked him if he was upset with me and he didn’t respond. There were other things I wanted done, but it was such a bad experience I just wanted to leave.
Perhaps if you are wanting a design with little thought or detail you’ll have an ok experience, but why would you want to support someone that treats people the way Matty treated me. There’s a huge amount of trust that goes into letting someone tattoo you and Matty had no respect for that or my feelings. This tattoo was for my brother and is very meaningful for me and I regret that I went with Matty. The experience makes me never want to get a tattoo again.

Hey Joe;
This is Rick. It's been 10 year's past now since you did my first Tattoo on my left (side) calf. Back in 2009. The Ancient Aries Ruin symbol. You & I designed it together. If you remember my intentions to have my Astrological forecast tattooed all over my body. In 2010 You finished off w the Name (Balance) on my left side Shoulder. Then back in 2011 you tattooed that beautiful Ivy on my right leg (calf) w/brilliant, vibrant colors to offset all the other work I had done. I must say. This work is still vibrant and vivid. People still ask me if I just had them done. They are all just amazed. You truly do beautiful work. F.Y.I.

This was the best place I ever went to to get a tattoo done. No joke. I had a cover up I needed to get done and Adam took care of me and had full trust in what he wanted to do. Everyone was also very nice and caring and actually felt like they wanted to help you, as opposed to other shops I've been to where you are just a burdon for just walking in and asking a question. Anyway, Adam is the best, total professional and would recommend this shop to anyone who is looking to get real pro work done.

Left a message and got no response. I'm getting kind of tired of that routine with tattoo shops in Portland. I've even walked in, placed my name on a list for walk-ins and got nothing. 3 times. Tattoo ideas have come and gone and I haven't had any new ones for 6 years.... Maybe that's a good thing? I HATE ALL THESE HUND-O'S BURNING HOLES IN MY POCKETS!🤬
