Martian Arts Tattoo Studio

Had a great walk-in experience with Martian Arts artist Gabe (@GabePDX on IG). The entire staff was very friendly, and Gabe was patient and quite helpful in teasing out my half-baked idea into a piece I’m really happy with. Will try to remember to come back to post the finished product, but wanted to be sure to post my review while the experience was still fresh.

Gabe is definitely a good artist to work with if you are new to the world of tattooing or need help developing their ideas - very collaborative process, and reasonable price!

There is nothing bad to say about Martian Arts Tattoo. I've been in twice and I can safely say I will never be going anywhere else. All the artists are fun, kind, and go above and beyond to make sure you have the best looking tattoo possible.

I was tattooed once by Jerry and once by Thor and they both did incredible work. I came to them with an idea and they offered up design ideas that took both tattoos from pretty good, to beyond beautiful and unique. They have the talent of turning your words and ideas into the perfect design.

Not only are they talented, they went out of the way to make me as comfortable as possible. I'm not that great with pain, but they made it as painless as they possibly could, which was greatly appreciated.

The prices are more than reasonable, they're always lower than I expect.

If you're on the fence about checking them out, just go.

I went in on a whim while visiting Portland. I wanted something very simple, small, and understated, and worked with Joanne to create the perfect piece of art. She was super easy to work with and she made me feel completely comfortable. Turns out she's the owner! If the owner treats a random person like me with such kindness and attentiveness, just think what they'd do for you.

My husband and I have been getting tattooed by both Jerry and Joanne for years. They are two of the sweetest, most talented artists in this town. We constantly get compliments on their work and have sent many first timers to them. If you want skilled artists who are considerate, gentle and knowledgeable, contact Martian Arts.

I’ve been to this shop multiple times for myself and friends I’ve recommended to this shop. Talk about a good vibe. Clean and happy is a good combination for a tattoo shop. Rarely have I heard anyone screaming in pain so that my friends is a good sign lol..! Every artist has a different look to their art so just recommend looking through their books and body of work to find one that fits with you.. can’t go wrong here!!

I've always had a good experience at Martian Arts! But this time I was super impressed with my artist Gabe! He listened to everything I wanted and made suggestions to create the perfect tattoo. He took the time to get it just right and I really appreciate the detail. It's a beautiful piece of work that I will treasure forever.

I've collected tattoos from various artists throughout the United States. Since receiving my 1st tattoo at Martian Arts a few years back, I have been back for multiple pieces and have plans to return for several more this year alone. Having someone permanently marking my skin is something I take serious and couldn't be happier I found a place in Portland with artists that feel the same. Can't wait to get back in there!

My favorite tattoo shop! I've been getting my ink art from the Martian crew for almost 10 years and just as happy with my oldest tattoos as I am with the newest. Super clean shop, lots of fun, newest equipment (read: less pain, more efficient) and a great place to spend hours under the needles.

These are highly successful tattoo artists with fine arts degrees, great taste in music and so much ability. Their art is original and they rockstar guest in tattoo shops all over the world.

Love this place, the people and their skills!

Horrible communication, and horrible customer service. After being told by the staff, that my request was beyond the skill level of any artist at the shop, I received a call from the "owner/manager" saying that this was not true, and that they can take care of my tattoo personally. When speaking with the owner on a Monday, I was asked to send pictures and details of the tattoo and I would have a reply in just a couple days. I sent the picture, and got a response saying that the tattoo was very doable, expect a response in a couple days to schedule a date.

Sadly they never reached out, and when I called to follow up that following Friday, they did not remember me, and asked me to send all the information all over again to see if it was possible.

In a city full of capable artist, its good business practice/customer service that make a difference, and this place has none of the above.

Thor is the man!!! I have been in the shop now few times and had 99% of the work on my body done here. I I'm always comfortable in the shop and the other artists are always very engaging and kind. Would highly recommend if you're looking to get some work done to go in and talk to a few the artist
