I'd been contemplating my first tattoo for literally four years and finally decided to go through with it five days ago. Just a simple, small cross between my shoulder blades. Nate Luna at The Hive was recommended to me and he was able to see me same day. Upon walking into the shop, I was impressed with how open, clean, and inviting it was. I was very nervous but Nate made me feel welcome (this was huge because I was worried about feeling out of place), calm, comfortable, and he was great about talking me through the process and not rushing. It's healing up very nicely and just last night I went back for my 2nd...a rose on my ankle that turned out beautiful! I'd recommend The Hive, and specifically Nate, to anyone - whether they're looking to test the waters or are a seasoned pro when it comes to getting tattooed. From what I've learned about him the past week, he's a great guy and his work reflects it.

Such a relaxing, friendly vibe at The Hive. Roll Hardy is at the top of his game. He has an uncanny ability to listen, and then manifest perfectly what my mind's eye has conceived for a new tattoo.

There is a certain decorum and etiquette that is expected among those who are about to be tattooed. I basically violated all of those expectations and was not only treated well, I was catered too in ways not expected. I took a design to Simon and not only did he improve on it ten fold, he also explained why and how he was making these artistic choices. As he worked his magic we talked about politics, art, religion, movies, geopolitics and what it means to be where he is from in this time and place he now calls home. Simon isn't just an amazing artist; he is a thinker. As the tattoo came to life I found the experience becoming more and more relaxing, not taxing and depleting like previous ink work I've had done. Sure the pain was present but I didn't feel like at any point Simon lost focus, betrayed his vision or treated my idea and body flippantly. His sense of humor is by no means blunted by his cerebral nature either. He is well versed in sarcasm, out right-mockery and subtle satire.
