For my first tattoo, I decided to do my research and look up the tattoo shops in Charleston that were the most loved (and look at the tattoos done by their artists of course). After some time and a bit of asking around, I chose Broken Lantern.
I am so glad that I did! Joe Perez made my dream come true. The first time I walked in, we immediately got to talking about the tattoo. He came up with a drawing by Thursday, and the whole thing was done on Friday. He was so professional, and he had great ideas on how to make my original plan for the tattoo really pop and look beautiful. I was amazed at how fast he was on coming up with the drawing and final design.
He is an amazing artist, and I could not have gone to a better place. I went through the whole six hours just chatting and laughing. It was super awesome.

Broken Lantern has really good reviews and is nominated to be the best tattoo shop in Charleston. I assumed all the artist working here would be able to do good line work but unfortunately, I was wrong. I requested a relatively simple minimalistic tattoo that included three bold straight lines and the finished piece came out looking wavy and slightly curved. My artist was super nice and seemed like they would be a cool person to hang out with but the quality of the work I received was disappointing. I spent just over $100 on this tattoo and now I have to go spend more money to attempt to get it fixed. If your tattoo requires straight lines I would not recommend going to Broken Lantern Tattoo.

I came into Broken lantern with a quarter sleeve that was half completed. I had to move down here before I could finish the project and these guys were very accepting. I've dealt with a lot of artists who weren't as open about the design process as these guys were. Glenn did a wonderful job finishing the foreground in my sleeve and even went back to my other work to touch it up. The front staff is nice and as long as you're not trying to barter free tattoos like a prick, you're going to be happy too. Quality work. Honest people. Nice atmosphere inside. You can't beat that.

Dave did an amazing job!! I had the pleasure of having him do my very first tattoo and the experience was one I will remember forever! He was super nice, cool and funny! He was very fast and was as gentle as possible during the process! His art work is amazing and I look forward to getting more tattoos with him in the future! Great experience at Broken Lantern...Walked in and asked about a custom piece and even had a time limit. Nick walked up and didn’t hesitate to help with the drawing. He delivered an awesome tattoo. Everyone else was very nice and welcoming. Very happy with my tattoo and the whole experience. 5 stars for sure.
