Best tattoo experience I’ve ever had! Myself and 3 other girls were accepted by Zach as walk-ins, on a last minute whim. This is the type of place you go back to for all of your tattoos. Unfortunately we’re from out of town, otherwise this would be my go to EVERY time. Friendly, clean, laid back and professional, and beautiful work. My favorite and best tattoo yet. THANKS ZACH!!

my best friend and i left another shop dissatisfied after we could not agree on the art with the artist. black moon was quick to accommodate us for an end of the day walk-in. Derek was our artist and he nailed our tattoos. he made any adjustments we asked for and the atmosphere was very welcoming and comfortable. 10/10 would recommend

Got my 1st tattoo from Zach / 100% completely professional, friendly, and all-around cool guy / so glad I decided to go there for my first ink. Already have the 2nd one planned w/ Zach. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for your 1st, or even if you're a seasoned vet. Great Place!

I got tattooed here about a week ago for my first tattoo and all I can say is extremely positive things. Zach took everything I gave him and came up with such a great design that was better than I ever expected. I get compliments daily about my tattoo. I'm so in love with it! Everyone in the shop were so friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend getting a tattoo here!

Was able to make an appt with Rye with about a 24hrs notice. I gave him idea for a cuff and let him run with it. He did an amazing job, was super professional, and was kind enough to stay until it was complete.
Shop was super nice, exactly what I would imagine and everyone there couldn't have been more professional.

Literally one of the best shops I've ever step foot into. Zach and his crew really bring a new standard to the tattoo community. Everyone was super nice and welcoming when I walked in. They also made me feel very comfortable. If you are looking to get your first tattoo or add onto your collection you will be more than satisfied at Black Moon Tattoo.

It bums me out to leave a review like this but my experience was not was i was hoping or what I expected. The artist was someone other than the 3 listed on their website which was disappointing to realize after I arrived into town after traveling 5 hours to the shop. The artist (ryan?) made several obvious errors with the design of the tattoo that leave me to this day wishing I had just canceled and waited for one of the other artists. By no means is this a direct reflection of the shop but more so the skill of the artist. I am baffled that after such a tattoo he would be at such a respected and sought after tattoo shop.

Great place with a bunch of talented artists. Shop has a laid back, boutique vibe that welcomes you in. Zach has done all my work and is always easy to work with, on time and keeps you laughing. Shop is kept very clean and never makes you concerned about sanitation or safety. If you're looking for American traditional in Madison, this is your place.

I had my tattoo done here with Derek, and it was definitely a good decision on my part. I came in around 5:20 (they close at 6) only expecting to make an appt, but he was very nice and offered to tattoo me then (it was just one word on my forearm, so it was a quick one. Still, I thought this was nice.) He was on the quieter side, but very kind and patient with any questions and adjustments. Very professional. The word I wanted was in my mother's handwriting, and he replicated it perfectly with very solid line work. Obviously this was a very straightforward, small tattoo, so take from this what you will, but I was definitely happy with the results.

I can't say enough good things about Zach and Black Moon in general. Zach does amazing American traditional and is also so easy to work with--he approaches everything with enthusiasm and it's clear he puts 100% into every tattoo he does. He is up front and honest about all aspects of tattooing, which I really value. From artwork to placement, he knows his stuff and wants to work with clients to create beautiful tattoos that flow well with the body.
And the shop! The aesthetic is killer, without being pretentious. The open layout is fun as you can talk with other artists and customers. And being on E Johnson there are tons of cool places nearby for drinks/dinner/shopping, and lots of people & dog watching!
