Hold It Down Tattoo Studio

Went to Sean to get dog paw print tattoos. He was brilliant - fantastic shading and perfect replicas of their paws! Healing beautifully and he did them so quickly. We tried for another tattoo but I need to rethink it as we couldn’t lay it out right. I appreciate that he wouldn’t tattoo it unless he was happy with how it sat - mark of a true artist who values good work over a quick buck. Place was clean, easy to find, and staff friendly.

One of Best Tattoo Studios in Richmond! Everyone there is awesome. I’ve had work done by multiple artists there and they’re all a pleasure to talk to and work with. The shop has a great chill vibe to it. Highly recommend!

Grants was really awesome to work with. Was nice enough to take us in as walk-ins. Everyone was very friendly and the shop has lots of cool art. It was a comfortable and clean set up. Good spot if you're looking for traditional tattoos.

Never got back with about an email I sent on the shops website to set up an appointment. I knew about one of the artist there because he had did some of my early work. When I found out that he was at this location I was happy to have located him. I call the shop to see if they had got my email and if I could speak to the tattoo artist. I was told he was on break and that he would call me back. Mind you the shop had just opened up. I never received a call back and was left in the dark. I thought I had a good rapport with this artist but I guess I was wrong. He didn't respond to email or phone call to the shop.

I have been going to Amelia for a few years now. She is an amazing artist and I always have a great time when I am in the shop. Everyone is very friendly and the rapport between the artists there is fantastic. I have never been disappointed by my tattoos or my experiences in the shop. Fantastic place!

The shop is full of great talent, I had an appointment with Josh Stephens and he's an amazing artist. Really great attention to detail and super friendly dude.

Parking can be tricky and it's cash only. The waiting room is small but that's pretty standard for a shop this size. Absolutely recommend coming here!

Having procured tattoos from all over the country, I would have to say this was one of my favorite experiences.

This little tattoo studio tucked between a shady ally/street initially gave me some pause. It is also centrally located to college students and I wondered if this was just one of the spots that drunk kids stumble in to get hemp leaves and finger mustache tattoos. But the eclectic collection of art, figurines, and trinkets sprinkled in with religious and morbid motifs oddly provided a familiarity that was enhanced by the smell of antiseptic.

The person at the desk, Grant, was really welcoming and helpful. He took some notes/pictures about what I wanted and helped me schedule an appointment the following week with Amelia.

On the day of my appointment, Amelia shared her drawing and it was dead on. I really had no suggestions on modifications. She nailed it.

The tattoo experience itself was also great (I mean besides the needles puncturing the skin thousands of times a minute part). Amelia was down to earth and, perhaps to her dismay, quite approachable. I usually let tattoo artists poke away, even up to 12 hours, because it can be kind of awkward with a stranger up in your business hours on end and some artists just really aren't interested in talking. Plus I worry about taking away their concentration. But Amelia was fun to chat with. Soon the tattoo was all done and it looked perfect. Her line work and shading for black and grey are pristine. Her rates are extremely reasonable to boot.

I can’t recommend this place enough for your next arm sleeve, chest piece, or hell, infinity tattoo on the inside of your wrist.

As we speak, I'm watching Darryl tattoo my friend's leg. He's amazing and so friendly. The shop staff is a group of some of the nicest people I've ever met who want to work with you to make your tattoo come true.

It is cash only, but there's an ATM literally across the street. Park in the VCU garage if there's none on Goshen.

Easily my favorite shop in the city! The talent/quality of work is unparalleled and everyone there is so nice! I always feel comfortable when I go in for an appointment and they're always happy to answer any questions I have. The artists are always really receptive to my ideas and also have a bunch of cool flash to choose from. I love this place!

I like the environment, they all seem very cool. Grant did an amazing job on my memorial tatt. His line work is awesome.
