Black Rabbit Tattoo

Black Rabbit is a tattoo parlor and also a haven. The staff are welcoming, kind, and considerate. If you have not had the pleasure of working with an artist from the shop I encourage you to reach out. They are all incredibly talented and wonderful humans. The shop is extremely clean and has an overall very comfortable environment. They also provide a considerable amount of privacy. Out of all the shops I've been to Black Rabbit is my favorite by far.

2 stars - gave the extra star because the women here are talented, but my experience was unprofessional.

I came in for two smaller pieces a few years ago, which healed sloopy and blown out. I reached back out to the shop to see if I can schedule, discuss, and PAY to have these bad tattoos covered - attempting to give this shop another chance.

The front desk staff stated to reach out to the artists directly. I reached out to one, who said to check back in for bookings in early October. Being mid-october and haven't seen anything about bookings, I reached back out... no response. I reached back out to the general email to see if I could see another artist or get some contact info for the other artists in the shop. An employee called me to state 1) bookings are full for the next 2-3months (ok that's not a problem), 2) that she "can't just pick an artist for me" (not what I was asking when I asked for a list of artists and contact info), and 3) she can't provide much help if I don't use Instagram.

At which the woman asked me "well how did know to reach out to X artist if you don't use instagram" - which I stated I had help/recommendations from friends. This question was unrelated and kind of out of place in all honesty.

At this point, I decided that I will take my business elsewhere and spend my money towards a shop that actually wants to help me cover this bad tattoo up. The sad part in all this, is that I wasn't looking for any free services or discounts for their initial screw up - I just wanted them to make it right, and assist with scheduling a consult for a piece I can be proud of.

As stated before, some of the artists here are super talented so I'm disappointed that the front desk woman had deterred me from moving forward with this booking. I'd also like to state that the two pieces I had done a few years ago were not only done poorly, but the consult service was awkward and slightly uncomfortable. Good luck to this shop, but I'd advise you all to work on your customer service skill, and communication between front desk to artist.

Great shop! My artist (Jenna Ruth) was really helpful, and coming in as a walk in with a general idea, she took a great direction and I walked out with something even better than I anticipated! Awesome conversation, and everyone there was communicative and clearly cared about their art. Would heavily recommend, I am already planning on what my next piece from here will be!

Went for the toys for tats. The ladies stayed late getting through the line, everyone was working as hard as possible and managed to stay friendly despite 6+ hours of nonstop tattoos. No one expected that many people to attend the event!

I've gotten my last three pieces done here and every single time the staff has been friendly, personable, efficient, clean, easy to communicate with, and their work is extraordinary while still being very affordable. My most recent artist was Jelena on a walk-in, and she captured exactly what I was imagining and made the process so easy for me. A favorite shop of mine!

This was the best walk-in experience I've had in Richmond! I just needed to finish up a poem with simple lettering on my forearm and they were able to take me immediately and charged way less than what I was expecting. I also felt extremely comfortable in the shop, I love that it's owned and operated by women (none of that typical macho-tattoo parlor stuff). The woman who tattooed me drew everything free style and I was SO impressed and she had the lightest touch I've ever experienced! She also touched up the old lettering for free! She was so detail oriented and took her time to make sure everything was the right size, font, and shape which I really appreciated. I will defiantly be going back!

Waited in line since 11am to partake in their Toys for Tats event. This event was supposed to be held from 12pm-6pm. After waiting five hours, it’s now 430pm and they tell us that they are stopping the event. But that we can still donate the toys. Not happening. This event was a good idea with disastrous organization. Wasted my entire day waiting in a line.

Had a wonderful first experience at Black Rabbit with Ellie today! She captured the essence of my cat in wonderful and creepy way. I can't wait to see this healed! The shop is very nice and clean. All the artwork everywhere is amazing. Great atmosphere!

I got two pieces done by the lovely Kimberly Wall today, and I can't even begin to express how EXTREMELY pleased I am with the end product, as well as the overall experience. Everyone was pleasant (plenty of great conversations and laughs) and the overall vibe of the shop was so cool. Very clean, organized, and professional!! I'm very much looking forward to going back for more pieces. In my opinion, Kim's the best anime tattooist on the East Coast!!

I was so unhappy with my experience with Black Rabbit Tattoo! I am from out of town, and tried to book a same day appointment over the phone like they requested. Apparently there was a miscommunication, and when I arrived at the shop (1 hour after they opened) the person I spoke with said they had no availability at all that day, but when we emailed and spoke on the phone, she did not say this. I understand that mistakes happen, and it could’ve been a fault on my end, but the employee was incredibly rude, spoke over me, and was incredibly unprofessional in my opinion. I love the idea of women owned businesses, but I will NOT be returning.
