TL;DR, if you want a tattoo of substance, this is the place to go. If you want a piercing or something tacky, probably not the place for you.
If you read anything less than a 3-star review for here, you're more than likely reading a review from someone who is taking out personal issues on artists (e.g. artists declining going to get drinks with them). I've gotten work done by Eric and Randall and enjoyed the entire process-- from preparation to completion. Everyone there is unique and a joy to chat with.

My brother was in town for an impromptu weekend, and we decided that we “needed” to get tattoos in memory of our late but very dear grandmother. She was our world, so these tats had to be just right. I went with something in her handwriting on my arm; Jack did it perfectly, adding just a small change to make it perfect. I could not be happier. My brother decided to get a larger Celtic cross with his own twist. Royce worked with him to draw out exactly what he wanted, executed it amazingly, and even charged less than we expected. Being sxsw weekend I was really not sure walking into a shop on S. Congress was a good plan, but these guys exceeded every expectation I have for a tattoo artist. Clean, professional, honest, amazing artists but they also had us laughing with their jokes, which made the time more enjoyable. I also watched as they calmly explained to some people making that drunk tattoo bad decision why they may want to sleep on it, and still stay calm as people rudely demanded next to impossible requests (like a hand-sized tattoo for under twenty bucks and in thirty minutes). I can’t say enough good things about this place, seriously, quit searching, this is the place you want.

Best shop in town! Noska is amazing. He's done over 30 hours of beautiful tattoos on my body over the past 5 years and they all have healed without issue, held up beautifully and I get compliments on them everywhere I go. I would highly recommend any artist at Southside but esp Noska!

Excellent. I spoke with Randall before we arrived, made an appointment and was totally happy with the results. Randall is professional and imaginative. He was able to give me the tattoo I wanted and I was more than pleased.

Was super impressed with this place. Eric did an amazing job! Was in town visiting and stopped in just to look around. Ended up getting my very first tattoo and I couldn't be more happier with it. Highly recommend it.

I've had three tattoos here and liked those experiences. However I went in on 9-11 to get a tattoo to memorialize the day of my fallen brothers ( firefighter) and I was going to incorporate a cross in the art. Their was no denying that the artist did not want to draw, I said I love Jesus and want to do both. After confessing my faith the artist (Eric) mocked my belief in God. I left soon after.
I bring up the cross because when I googled "Christian Tattoo artist, Austin TX" Southside came up first.

I have been to Southside numerous times now, mostly to see Noska and Leila before she moved (:_:). The whole staff is very accommodating and fun. Very talented group of artists with a laid-back feel to the place. Noska and Leila are both very detail-oriented and willing to work with you to make sure your tattoos look supreme. Very clean place, quality work, talented artists. Parking can sometimes be tricky but it's worth a short walk to get work by these talented people.

Randall did an absolutely amazing job on my first and second tattoo on my 18th birthday. He answered all my questions and adjusted the size of my stencil until it fit my needs. Would highly recommend!

Pretty sure Royce is the best tattoo ARTIST out there! This place is the real deal. I will never go anywhere else again. This was a cover up and it turned out perfect in my eyes! Also, no yucky attitudes.
